Susan Solseth is a five-year member of the Bismarck-Mandan club who is committed to making her community a better place to live.

Currently serving as vice president of the club, Susan has most recently been involved with Quota International's mission of helping disadvantaged women and children. One of the many projects Quota International of Bismarck-Mandan supports is helping cancer victims. Once a year members help raise money for cancer awareness via the "Relay for Life." Cancer does not sleep, therefore participants walk from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. on a lighted luminary track symbolizing that cancer is a 24/7 disease. The club also makes "cancer pillows" for recently diagnosed breast cancer patients. The pillows are used as a cushion under the seat belt for comfort. Susan has also been involved with a diabetes program for children and the HERO program for the hearing impaired.

As a young child, Susan's parents exposed her to the rewards of helping others. She went on to choose a career in public service. Susan is the assistant district manager of the Bismarck, North Dakota Social Security Office and has worked with the Social Security Administration for the past 34 years. She has received several awards over the years for her contributions to the agency. She also has been a member of the Bismarck-Mandan Federal Executive Board and Federal Women's Program. Her dedication to these organizations was honored with the Federal Civil Servant of the Year Award. She has gained great satisfaction from helping those who have had a life changing event such as retirement, suffering from a disability, or the death of a family member.

She has been involved in many organizations and has received several awards for her involvement with community service. She serves as a board member of the Bismarck Meals on Wheels program and as a member of the Denver Region Management Association. She has also been actively involved with her church. She has volunteered her time for activities ranging from teaching youth the Christian faith to serving benefit dinners to help those in need.

For all she gives to our community, the Bismarck-Mandan Quota club proudly nominates Susan Solseth to be our 2006 Volunteer of the Year.
