    Mavis Adams
    Quota International of Redcliffe, QLD

Mavis Adams has been a member of Quota International of Redcliffe for 10 years, and her fellow Quotarians appreciate the great energy and artistic skill she brings to the club. Having lived in the community all her life, she is very well known, which is also of great assistance when arranging functions and fund-raising.

Mavis has served on the club's board for many years despite her husband having a degenerative neurological disease. She can always be counted on as program organizer or lead fund-raiser. This year she organized two raffles, a St. Patrick's Day dinner, and a spring garden party. The garden party was a large event, including afternoon tea, a fashion parade, various stalls, and a quilt show. She arranged for the hospitality students from a local school to prepare and serve the food, so they would receive credit for their work.

Always interested in assisting young people, Mavis participates in a job training program at a local school each year, helping students practice interviewing to train them for obtaining paid employment.

Mavis has a florist business, and her floral arrangements and decorations always make the club's functions very special. Her arrangements are in great demand, and the club often sells them at the end of the evening to make more funds. Mavis has previously worked as a nurse in Residential Aged Care, and she has retained her interest in the aged, running a workshop to teach others how to make floral corsages to distribute to the aged on Mother's Day.

Mavis is an outstanding example of a member who voluntarily shares her many talents with her Quotarians and the community, and the Redcliffe club is proud to honor her with the 2006 Volunteer of the Year Award.
