Jane Massey
Quota International of New Haven, CT

Jane Massey is a resident of Derby, Connecticut, and her many volunteer activities have fanned out to embrace much of the Greater New Haven area, Milford, and Orange. When Jane, a physical therapist, retired from practice a few years ago, she chose to continue to assist others. She followed the prescribed course of training and became an ombudsman for the residents of a Milford nursing facility. Dedicated to her role of showing concern and giving voice to the needs of the residents, she participates weekly as their ombudsman. In addition, she has expanded her volunteer duties at the health care center and is now part of the Family Council. For several years, Jane has been a scheduled, volunteer driver for the FISH, a nonprofit and nondenominational social service organization that provides and delivers food and emergency assistance to those in need. She assists in preparing meals on a routine basis for Columbus House, a rehabilitation center for those with addiction problems. Jane Massey is active in her church, serving on the Church Council and in the women's fellowship, where she assists with coffee hour. She also prepares soup for home delivery to shut-ins. Jane is a past president of Quota International of New Haven and remains an active board member. Heading the Scholarship Committee, she has been instrumental in acquiring a pool of qualified candidates for collegiate scholarships. She represents the New Haven Quota club on the Camp Cedarcrest Board. (Camp Cedarcrest is a camp for youth that is jointly owned and maintained by five area service clubs.) She willingly devotes extra time and energy to help evaluate and resolve the continuing challenges at the camp. As part of her commitment, she attends some of the camping sessions to observe and see that the young campers are having a quality experience. Concerned with the needs of others in developing countries, she has represented the New Haven club by communicating with Quota International of Ba, Fiji, and routinely sends them hearing aid batteries, which are quite expensive and difficult for them to obtain. Jane utilizes her unique talents and skills to the fullest, embodying the Quota principles of service, sharing with others, and caring for those in need.
