Mary
Lyons Mary Lyons is the mother of three daughters and the grandmother of three
granddaughters and three grandsons. She has been a Quota member for 15
years, two of which she was president and one of which she was Quotarian
of the Year. She has served on every committee and has been chairperson
of most of them. She has volunteered for many projects, but the one closest
to her heart is the blood drive. She has been the coordinator of the Magnolia
Community Blood Drive for 13 years. She begins by doing all of the newspaper
and radio publicity and putting out fliers and posters. On a rotating
basis, she schedules a different church location each time. She obtains
all the refreshments and door prizes for the drive and obtains sponsorship
for the T-shirts that are given out. She does all of the recruiting, and
she makes it fun for the workers. Because of her commitment to the cause,
her dedication to the community, her enthusiasm for the work she does,
her dependability to do the job, her reliability to get the work done,
her willingness to ask others to donate and expect a "yes,"
and most of all because of her love to help others, she was given the
2003 United Blood Services Coordinator of the Year Award for the East
Texas and Western Arkansas area. Because of Mary's love to give and be
of service to her fellow man, she is nominated the Quota International
of Magnolia Volunteer of the Year. To return to the 2004 Volunteers of the Year main page, click here.
