    Marcia Whiteford
Quota International of Cedar Rapids, IA

Hard-working. Motivated. Inspirational. These are all words that members of the Cedar Rapids club use to describe Marcia Whiteford. In addition to the role of treasurer, Marcia actively participates in all club activities from the Christmas auction to monthly bridge. She exemplifies the true spirit of volunteerism and in 2002-2003, Marcia went that extra mile in service to her club and community. She was instrumental in getting 501(c)(3) status for her club, which is critical as the club diversifies into new fund-raising events. In fall 2002, Marcia participated, along with other Quotarians, in Habitat for Humanity's Women's Built House. One weekend, Marcia built exterior walls while trying not to let the hammer slip. She also helped paint the interior during the same weekend that her club provided food for all the workers. As part of the club's goal to find fund-raising alternatives, Marcia coordinated an arrangement to periodically run a concession stand at the local college's football games. She also worked on a team to finalize Quota business cards to be given when recruiting new members and charitable deduction cards to be given in conjunction with fund-raisers, so that people have a record of their donations at tax time. With all of these accomplishments, Marcia is a role model who is truly deserving of the honor of Volunteer of the Year.
