As a Quotarian, she attends all of the club meetings and is involved in all of the fund-raisers sponsored by the club, including those for Bowlake School for the Deaf, Children's Therapy Center, and the Club-to-Club World Service program, to name just a few. In her community, Vay volunteers as a reading tutor for first- and second-graders at Jenkins Creek Grade School in Kent. Early Sunday mornings at Lake Sawyer Christian Church, she helps make coffee prior to being an usher for the church service. She is secretary for "The Living Cell" meetings, is hostess for numerous church functions, attends bible camp conferences, and is involved in church fund-raisers. Professionally, Vay is president of the Renton Retired School Employees and presides over 344 members. She is also a member of the Washington State School Retirees Association. Personally, Vay is a devoted grandmother who attends parent-teacher conferences, babysits, and chauffeurs her various grandchildren, and she also provides a home for her oldest grandson.
