Research often paves the way to progress, and Quota members understand the importance of research in helping deaf people. In recent years, the We Share Foundation has given U.S.$250,000 to accredited research institutions.

The We Share Foundation currently funds scientific research into hearing disorders through grants to two leading research facilities: House Ear Institute (HEI) in Los Angeles, California, U.S.A., and The Children's Cochlear Implant Centre (CCIC) in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. In 1995, the convention voting body approved a motion to distribute $100,000 to HEI and $25,000 to CCIC. At the successful completion of the research term in 1997, identical grants were issued to the two institutions.

A Quota Scholar
Wen Hsuan Hsieh had finished doctoral studies at the California Institute of Technology when he was selected as a Quota International Research Scholar at House Ear Institute. Wen collaborated with scientists there to develop a miniature microphone for use in hearing aids. His approach to microphone design may revolutionize signal processing so that the circuitry will fit on a single silicon chip, reducing overall costs and improving hearing aid performance and life span.

Quota International funded Wen's progressive work through the grant given to HEI. The We Share Foundation provides a way to expand the impact of Quota's sponsorship of worthwhile programs aimed at furthering hearing and speech research.
