    Joanne Sheskey
    Quota International of Athens, OH

When Joanne Sheskey retired after more than 20 years from her career as a social worker, she did not retire from her life of helping and serving others. With her husband Robert, Joanne began the Nelsonville Soup Kitchen in 1989. She was responsible for the menu planning, weekly ordering, organizing the other volunteers, as well as preparing and serving the meals. It was a "no questions asked" policy—anyone who wanted a hot, nutritious meal was welcomed. Unfortunately she had to give up her work there in 2000, and without her leadership, the kitchen was forced to close its doors. The kitchen was just one of the many projects Joanne has worked on since joining Quota in 1982. In addition, she has served on numerous committees throughout the years, offering her experience, guidance, and compassion through service. Joanne is also the proud mother of five daughters, grandmother of eight, and a loving wife of over fifty years.
