Staying Connected to Her Quota Club Quotarian Louise Buchner (pictured above) has been an active member of the Scranton, Pennsylvania club since 1966. Even though this lovely lady is no longer able to attend meetings, having moved to a care facility, she stays actively involved in the club by making phone calls and sending cards for them. For instance, she takes the reservation calls for meeting attendance. She also makes courtesy calls for special events, and she sends out birthday cards for the club. The Scranton Quota club is proud to proclaim themselves "the oldest club" in Quota International's worldwide network, founded in 1919. More importantly, though, is that this venerable club keeps their members involved and active in every way possible. Louise says she has always worked on the club's attendance and courtesy committee. When she became unable to attend meetings, it was natural for her to continue handling some of the same jobs she'd been doing. It has kept her in the club and connected to something she truly loves. Club president Betty Strutin, a Quota member since 1945 says, "It's great to have someone to take on those tasks!" Betty visits Louise every couple of weeks, which keeps her involved in the club's news and activities as well. Louise, now in her 80's, says that in all of her years as a member, Quota's commitment to service has not changed. Her 35-year legacy in Quota has brought many people a helping hand. But Louise says what she loves most is the fellowship she experiences in her club. She is a wonderful example of how, by doing whatever you can do, no matter what your circumstances are, you can make a difference. Blaire Fallon Byrley |
