Minneapolis Charity Lauds Quota Caring Minneapolis Quotarians received kudos from an organization that benefits from the club's dedicated volunteer work. A home for children, where the Minneapolis Quota club runs a literacy program, highlighted the project in its publication, Sketches, and has given the We Share Foundation permission to reprint the article. Helping Children Read to Succeed The Minneapolis Quota club is living up to their motto, "We Share." For many years, they have been supporting the Education Program at St. Joseph's Home for Children. The members believe that learning to read is an essential skill for all children and it helps them work toward their goals and dreams. The Quota club's annual contributions go toward purchasing computers and software, books, and reading supplies. The club is part of Quota International, a worldwide service organization known for helping people, including disadvantaged women and children. Six years ago, the St. Joseph's Choir sang at the club's Christmas party. Enamored by their performance, the members learned more about St. Joseph's and became official supporters. The Education Program works cooperatively with the Minneapolis Public Schools. Staff and volunteers help more than 80 children from the Day Treatment Program in grades one through twelve. "Our members feel they have been blessed with many things in life. Now we have an opportunity to help children who may be less fortunate and are struggling," says Janet Novak, past club president. Novak says that many children today need good role models and support from others to overcome personal difficulties. Learning to read is one way to help build a child's self-esteem.
