Quota Club of Manly Helps Suicidal Youth

An Australian Quota club took action when rampant drug abuse and related suicide attempts threatened the youth in their beach community.

The number of young people, ages 15 through 25, at-risk of endangering themselves was on the rise in Manly, New South Wales. So, Quota members there joined together with local psychologists and social workers to create a "Suicide Intervention Training" program to teach residents how to deal with young people in distress. The program trains participants to recognize potential suicidal behavior and to handle suicide attempts.

The club funds the training course, and members volunteer to help at the Manly Community Centre, where the program takes place. The club reports very positive feedback from participants of the program, which is supported by a We Share Foundation Youth Outreach Grant.
