Coolum Beach Quota Club Helps Kids Achieve

Members of the Coolum Beach club work with a local high school to help teens become better students.

"Program Achieve" is designed to help students perform academically to the best of their ability. The program targets young boys, ages 14 through 16, who show signs of problematic behavior. The boys typically display low self-esteem, few social skills, and poor academic achievement. Some of the boys also behave violently.

The club works to help these students improve their attitudes, develop a strong work ethic, and increase their self-esteem. Quota volunteers serve as mentors for the boys and work toward developing friendships with them. Members treat the boys to dinners, theater performances, and other fun social activities, while the school provides frequent progress reports to the club.

Program Achieve is supported by a We Share Foundation Youth Outreach grant.
