    White House Photographers Select Contest Winners

    The official White House staff photographers work hard at the home and headquarters of the President of the United States, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C. They're tasked with capturing images of the President and First Family in their daily activities. One day might require pictures of meetings with world leaders while the next brings a call for shots of the First Lady and her childhood friends.

    Arranged many months in advance, the photo contest judging date arrived at the height of the anthrax mail attacks, which plagued Washington in the wake of the September 11 destruction at the Pentagon and the World Trade Center. The photographers told the We Share Foundation that judging this contest—with its emphasis on service to others and highlighting the good works of dedicated volunteers—was a task they thoroughly enjoyed during a stressful time on the job.

    The We Share Foundation is proud to share the top three contest winners, the three photos awarded Honorable Mention, and the stories behind the photos. Throughout 2002, we will include the rest of the contest entries because all Quota service is a winner for those in need.
