    Networking in New Hampshire

The Quota club of Dover, New Hampshire, increases their service impact by networking with other organizations.

In December 2001, the club participated in Operation Christmas Child, an annual effort of Samaritan's Purse. The international relief organization distributes over four million shoeboxes each year to children who are victims of terrorism, war, natural disasters, disease, and poverty in more than 75 countries.

The Dover club prepared and donated 26 wrapped shoeboxes for the project. Each box was filled with toiletries, school supplies, flashlights, toys, and gifts.

The club is also exploring possible youth outreach projects with a local Youth Mentoring program. Shelley MacGregor, coordinator of Dover Middle School Mentor Program, spoke to the club in November about the positive impact a small investment of time can make.

MacGregor says just one hour a week can make a big difference in a young child's life. One hour spent one-on-one can lead to less drug and alcohol abuse, less aggressive behavior, more self-esteem, and better grades in school, she says.

The Dover Mentor Program is a volunteer-supported effort. Mentors must commit to serve throughout an entire school year.
