    Bringing Holiday Cheer

Just before Christmas 2000, the Tacoma Quota club teamed up with a local church to provide Christmas dinner for residents of Faith Homes. When the Quota-sponsored caterer learned the nature of the event, he offered a deep discount for the turkey and ham menu with trimmings for 50 girls and the volunteers. As a result, the club provided a wonderful service for very little money overall.

When the dinner bell sounded, Quota members gladly held babies as the girls heaped their plates in the buffet line. Then, volunteers, girls, and babies dined together at tables decorated with Christmas cheer. During the feast, Quota members distributed baby gifts. "Stuff like bibs and bottles," notes Lauri. "One member of our club had purchased lots of polar fleece and made little blankets that she handed out to each baby during dinner, too."

After dessert, Santa arrived to hear Christmas wishes as girls and their children posed for holiday pictures. The photographs were pasted onto greeting cards that girls could send to relatives and friends. "The girls got so excited about this picture taking!" Lauri says. "They kept getting back in line for more pictures with their friends and Santa. They were laughing and having a great time posing."

Later, girls enjoyed games while Quota volunteers babysat in the nursery. "The girls really enjoyed the break and had a ball," adds Lauri.

Following the holiday dinner success, the Tacoma club sought other ways to serve the girls in Faith Homes and decided to focus on the Union Street Home in Tacoma. Click here for more!
