    Creative Caring Helps Others

Wherever there's a need, Quota clubs around the world find a way to help. Whether it be senior citizens desiring some companionship or donating cleaning supplies to a shelter for abused women, Quotarians approach each situation with a willing spirit and helping hands. And the best part is that club members gain as much as they give. Helping those in need is the Quota club way.

Mariposa Quotarians Help a Local Shelter “Rise and Shine”

If you thought that a dish towel was nothing to get excited about then you haven't seen how such a simple household item can make a difference to women whose lives are in havoc! The Green Haven Shelter in Orillia, Ontario, in addition to offering a safe alternative to an abusive home, also provides counseling, legal, and relocation services.

After speaking with the staff, members of Quota's Mariposa "Silver Q" club learned that cleaning supplies were in short supply. Club members collected every type of cleaning product imaginable to help out the shelter, and they proved to be good shoppers, hitting all of the bargain tables and sales! These talented Quotarians also spent hours knitting, crocheting, and sewing homemade dishcloths for Green Haven.

Now the shelter's residents have been scouring their house with the cleaning supplies that the Quota Club of Mariposa donated. This worthwhile project is a "shining" example of Quota's impact on the community.

Valentine Antics Bring Fun, Laughter for Taree’s Senior Citizens

When it comes to imagination and having fun, nothing beats the Valentine's Day celebration Taree, New South Wales, Quotarians planned for the residents of nearby Bushland Place Nursing Home.

To celebrate Valentine's Day the "Quota girls," as they refer to themselves, staged a mock wedding. The hilarious show featured a bride and groom and the Flying Nun, Sister Bertrille, from the old television show. The residents got into the spirit of things with flowers and wedding cake. The nuptial ceremony was filled with witty lines and culminated in the couple exchanging hand cuffs instead of rings.

The Quota Club of Taree found a great way to liven up their usual visit with good fun and fellowship and at no cost. The staff members also enjoyed participating in the "wedding ceremony" as guests of the bride and groom. Comedy, the club members discovered, is a fantastic way to "lighten" what is very serious work, proving that laughter is the best medicine.

Valdosta Club Salutes Service Personnel in Georgia

The members of Quota International of Valdosta, Georgia, were able to express their gratitude to local military families as they sponsored their annual back-to-school fair. Sixty pre-school and school-aged children of enlisted parents from Moody Air Force Base in Georgia participated in the festivities. The children received bags of school supplies complete with a $40 Wal-Mart gift card.

Sigma Delta Theta, a high school sorority, offered their services as well, by providing face painting and thumb print art. And because it wouldn't be a party without treats, Valdosta Quotarians supplied pizza and soft drinks. The real treat of the day, however, was the enjoyment parents and Quotarians alike got from watching smiles on the children's faces as they celebrated the start of the school year.

Magnolia Quotarians in Their Crowning Glory

What would a country fair be without crowning a queen? For forty-three consecutive years, the Quotarians of Magnolia, Arkansas, have sponsored the Columbia County Fair Queen Pageant, a popular event in their Quota community.

Held annually on the third Monday in September, pageant planning takes months of preparation. Publicity starts in August with ads in the local newspaper, on the two radio stations, on television, and in flyers in schools and businesses.

The festivities begin with a party to meet all of the contestants. Pageant contestants are introduced to one another as well as the director. The excitement mounts on pageant day with a parade honoring contestants. Following the parade, Quota club members host a dinner party for everyone involved, which gives the judges a chance to interview each candidate. Following the banquet, contestants are given a police escort to the fair grounds, and the pageant begins.

The winning contestant is honored with a cash prize, a bouquet of roses, a silver tray, and her portrait.
