    Hurricane Relief Support

"I can't go down to help but will send my contribution to the We Share Foundation today. My thoughts and prayers are there and with all our members who are doing so much to help. We all appreciate all the information you have been giving us. Keep up the good work."

    —Barbara Rumbel, QI of Flint

One common bond that we as Quotarians share among us is compassion for others. It is what keeps us working through our club for the betterment of society; it is what causes us to spend time and money on others outside of ourselves and family. So we as Quotarians really are linked by this imperceptible yet unbreakable thread, one to another. That is why this terrible tragedy that happened to Quotarians in and around the Louisiana area grieves us so and touches us deeply. If we could physically be there for you, we would be, but instead we must tell you this. We, the members of QI of Penticton (British Columbia) in District 11 of Canada Area, would like to convey to you our prayers and our promise to meditate for your physical and emotional healing. God bless!

Support for victims of hurricanes Katrina and Rita came in a range of forms, each sharing the spirit of friendship and service that characterizes Quota International.

    • Financial support. The We Share Foundation collected U.S.$48,358 in support of those clubs performing hurricane relief work. Every dollar went directly to these services, which you can read about at Money Well Spent: Distribution of Donations. For a complete list of donors, click here.

    • Thoughts and prayers. E-mails from around the world filled Quota International's e-mail in-box. These notes were posted on our Web site; click here to read each of them.

    • Shoeboxes of Love. Quotarians all across the U.S. supported this program, sponsored by Quota International of Mississippi Gulf Coast. The program collected over 500 shoeboxes filled with gifts for the 400 children who attended a Christmas party sponsored by the club. Click here for the club's Web site, which offers a complete overview and list of contributors.

    • Additional supplies. Additional, much-needed resources came from other Quota clubs. QI of Sioux City has sent blood products to Miami and Pensacola, Fla., which were hit by Katrina, and to Memphis, Tenn., where many evacuees are hospitalized. QI of Kalamazoo donated 1,700 T-shirts to QI of Bossier City, who distributed them to children who had been evacuated to the area and were attending Bossier City schools.
