We Share Foundation Provides Relief from the Storm
All of Quota watched in horror as the devastation of the recent hurricanes in the Southeast U.S. was shown around the world. Before flood waters receded, the We Share Foundation set up an emergency Hurricane Relief Fund to support Quota volunteer efforts in the devastated region. To date, over U.S.$44,500 has been donated to the relief fund, and because the Foundation is absorbing all administrative costs, 100 percent of the donations are going to We Share Foundation-approved projects sponsored by Quota volunteers in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas.
"Quota clubs in the region hardest hit by these two devastating hurricanes started helping people before the storms came ashore," said Quota International President Carolyn Rice of Parkes, N.S.W., Australia, who visited hurricane-ravaged areas in Mississippi. "Our volunteers have a strong organizational structure within our clubs, districts, and areas, so Quota International was able to spring into action very quickly. The hurricane relief fund offers an efficient way for people around the world to empower Quota volunteers who know what needs to be done in their local communities in the wake of this horrific tragedy."
While the foundation has channeled donations to Quota-run projects in developing nations for many years, establishment of the Hurricane Relief Fund marks the first time the foundation has managed worldwide donations for a project in North America.
