Helping Homeless Women

Quota International's service focus on disadvantaged women and children leads many clubs to support local emergency shelters. Quota clubs in Alaska and Ohio perform service to help displaced families in their communities feel more at home in temporary surroundings.

The Fairbanks Quota club dedicates ongoing service to furnish and redecorate the Women's Wing of the Fairbanks Rescue Mission. Quota volunteers donate hundreds of service hours, provide furnishings, decorations, televisions, computers, books, and more to make the facility welcoming for families in transition.

The Quota club of Fairbanks—home base of Quota's International President Mary Cotter—works hard to make a difference.

Lorain, Ohio, U.S.A.
When a new transitional housing facility opened in Lorain, Ohio, U.S.A., the local Quota club was quick to offer a helping hand. The club contacted the facility director and received a "wish list" to use in deciding how to help. Club leaders sent each member information about the home, called My Sister's Keeper II, and their wish list.

Together, the club prepared to shower the facility with Quota caring. First, the club used service funds to buy a dryer and a freezer for the home. Next, members purchased gifts and set aside an evening to get together to wrap them. Over pizza, Quota volunteers shared fun, fellowship, and the great feeling of doing good as they coordinated the generous assortment of goods.

The club also donated tickets to women staying at the home for their annual Singing Angels Concert. An annual club fund-raiser, the concert brings the well-known children's choir to Lorain to sing Christmas favorites in a beautifully restored theater.
