Orange Quota Attracts Crowd

When the Quota club of Orange, New South Wales, Australia, offered a Sunday afternoon art show and luncheon in the local botanical gardens to sponsor local service, an enthusiastic crowd of 130 people arrived for the festivities.

The club created the event to raise money for the Rainbow Club, a group that teaches disabled children to swim. Four local artists happily exhibited their works for the cause (and sold quite a few works!), but the cheery garden setting and scrumptious nibbles lured everyone away when the dinner bell sounded.

Quota volunteers cooked all of the food for the event—from chicken, meatloaf, and pasta to salads, side dishes, and dessert. On the big day, members arrived at 8:00 a.m. to set up tables and prepare them for dining. One member focused on preparing beautiful fresh flower arrangements for each table.

"This was a whole club effort," notes club president Denise Castelli. "I'm particularly proud of the members who assisted with planning, setting up, serving, and cleaning up after the event."

The enjoyable day brought in Aus.$2,855 for the Rainbow Club—and attracted lots of attention to Quota. Excellent publicity on television, radio, and in the newspaper generated interest in the community. Meanwhile, club members invited friends and neighbors to join the fun. "What else does Quota do?" asked one guest after the "wonderful event."
