QI of Fairbanks, Alaska, U.S.A.
The Fairbanks club created four projects to celebrate Quota Cares Month in their community. The club service committee assembled 30 Quota Cares Totes with toiletries and other essentials for local residents displaced by catastrophes, plus totes filled with baby needs, such as diapers and bottles. Each tote delivered to the Red Cross contained a Quota Cares Bear. The Red Cross estimates 40-50 families in the Fairbanks area are left temporarily homeless each year from floods and fires. In addition, the club collaborated with a local Girl Scout troop to host a birthday party for residents of a nursing home, drew attention to its ongoing campaign to collect used cell phones for people in need (the Call to Protect Campaign), and held its annual "Cham Fashional," a major fund-raiser that allowed the club to end the month by presenting a check for U.S.$10,000 to the local health center for new otoscopes and ophthalmoscopes. The club launched Quota Cares Month by hosting a booth at a local women's fair, sharing information about Quota, and recruiting a dozen potential new members. The enthusiasm generated in sharing Quota and conducting several meaningful projects in a short period of time boosted morale among members. Past club Service Chair Diane Shoemaker says, "It's just a great feeling to be known in the community for our generous contributions." To read the club's winning application, click
