QI of Parkes, New South Wales, Australia

Two meaningful projects conducted during Quota Cares month increased the Parkes club's visibility and generated goodwill in the community—presentation of captioned medical videos to the local library and a luncheon to mark International Women's Day.

The club assembled a selection of open captioned medical videos for hearing and hearing-impaired residents to borrow from the local Shire library, covering heart problems, diabetes, radiation therapy, breast cancer, and mental illness. The presentation attracted media attention and, because of generous donations, the project came well under budget.

The luncheon attracted significant attention, due in part to the guest speaker, Linda Burney (pictured to the right with Parkes Mayor Robert Wilson). She is the first aboriginal woman elected to state parliament in New South Wales. Healthy ticket sales and news coverage forced the club to move the event to a larger venue and added to the club's already excellent reputation in the region.
