Different Clubs, Different Areas, Same Quota Caring

    Suriname Club Celebrates Keti-Koti Day

In the South American nation of Suriname, the first of July is Keti-Koti Day, a national holiday to celebrate the abolition of slavery. The Suriname Quota club marked the event with service to help impoverished families in the Paramaribo area.

Club members worked individually to gather items for about 50 local mothers. In soliciting items from friends and relatives, they generated considerable enthusiasm in the community in the process. Then, club members gathered with their collections to assemble substantial boxes of goods for the needy families—all without tapping into club funds.

Each club member received three boxes to deliver to specified families. "It struck the Quota members to see how happy the selected mothers were to receive these boxes and what such a small token can mean to them," notes Suriname club member and Past District 42 Governor May Kowsoleea.

The Suriname club aims to increase the project annually.

Amherst Quota Club Harvests Bumper Crop

In North America, the Amherst Quota club in New York, U.S.A., gathers each August for Summer Fest—a meeting featuring fellowship, fun, and service. When the club focused service on the local Harvest House, which helps disadvantaged families, the result was a bumper crop of goodwill for community and club members alike.

Harvest House provides free clothing for children in families identified by local social services. Housed in a former church, the charity invites parents to "shop" at Harvest House for items their kids need.

The Amherst Quota club aimed to fill the racks at Harvest House and planned a collection during Summer Fest. Featuring the theme "Rock-a-bye Baby with a Song in Our Hearts," members and guests amassed an impressive array of donated clothes, diapers, shoes, boots, potty chairs, baby gates, and other small items to help families transition into the fall and winter months. And they had a great time doing it.

    Service Strengthens Clubs
As the Amherst and Suriname clubs discovered, Quota members are always ready to help people in need. In gathering together with a plan to address local needs, club members generated enthusiasm in the community and felt good about what they accomplished.

As Quota members around the globe discover time and again, service strengthens clubs!
