QI of Charlotte, North Carolina, U.S.A.

    Megan Kinney

Megan Kinney was erroneously diagnosed as mentally retarded at age two and a half. Later, at age four, she was finally diagnosed with hearing impairment and fitted with hearing aids, having missed crucial years for speech and language development.

This motivated student worked hard to catch up in a handicapped classroom until she could be mainstreamed into a regular classroom in third grade. By seventh grade, FM hearing aids used to pick up a teacher's voice in a microphone made a tremendous difference and set Megan on a path to academic success.

The Charlotte Quota club is proud to have acted as Megan's partner in supporting her studies at the University of North Carolina at Asheville, where she studied viniculture.
