West Monroe Quota Club Screens Vision and Hearing

After thorough training for volunteers, club members launched an ongoing program that requires two months to complete each school year. Members volunteer in teams of two or more to spend one school day—from 7:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.—completing hearing screening in a designated school. Enthusiastic members annually donate more than 175 hours of volunteer service to make the effort a success.

"Our club was able to get a deeper understanding of Quota International service goals by working on this project," notes Bobbi. "It allowed us to make a name for Quota in our community within our first year after chartering. West Monroe not only knows that we exist but also knows our mission of service to the community."

Bobbi says the screening program motivates West Monroe Quota members to work together as a team. "It seems to bring a sense of unity and cohesiveness to the club that we needed, especially in our first year," she adds.

Member Margaret Truly logged the highest number of volunteer hours that first year. She said the club's assistance in the program "creates a win-win approach of matching Quota's focus on hearing with the school nurses' desperate need for help. It is a real pleasure to interface with the children as we provide this service, too."

For many club members, the club service project is a chance to do something new that is both fulfilling and rewarding. Says Bobbi, "Everyone benefits personally and professionally as we use time management skills, enjoy fellowship with other members, and build relationships with the nurses. It helps boost our club's enthusiasm with strong examples of leadership, organization, encouragement, and support that keep us in line with Quota's objectives. Our heart for service comes shining through!"
