West Monroe Quota Club Screens Vision and Hearing

When the eight Ouachita Parish school nurses in Louisiana, U.S.A., worried how they could screen for vision and hearing loss among every child in first, third, fifth, seventh, ninth, and eleventh grades throughout 18 schools, the West Monroe Quota club discovered a perfect service project.

The club volunteered to help administer hearing evaluations in the parish, the name given to counties in Louisiana, freeing school nurses to focus on vision screening. Club member, now club president-elect, Dr. Bobbi Wiegand and a delighted parish coordinator set up the club's first major service project in September 2000, soon after the club chartered in 1999.
