Grand Rapids Quota Club Supports Audiology

Supplies for the Universal Hearing Screening Program at DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan, U.S.A., cost $8.58 per baby. Insurance reimburses the hospital at only 21 cents on the dollar, leaving the hospital with a substantial budget deficit for the 10,000 babies screened each year.

A former Grand Rapids Quota member appealed to her old friends for help. The Grand Rapids club responded with a fund-raiser that brought in $8,580 for the program to keep the vital service going for infants born in DeVos.

In conjunction with the Children's Miracle Network, the club offered the donation on live television. During the broadcast of CMN's fund-raising program, the Quota club presented a check earmarked for infant hearing screening—a tremendous boost for the program and a great public relations move for the club, making everyone a winner.
