    The Symbolic Butterfly

District 35 Quotarian Marj Dinham, a member of the Broken Hill, Australia, club and Past District Hearing Chair, was helping Kath Bonnes prepare for the "Hearing in Isolation" Seminar in Broken Hill when she noticed butterfly stickers on the place cards…just like the butterfly stickers placed on district speech and hearing reports. She was surprised to learn that the beautiful, metamorphic insect is, in fact, the symbol of the deaf. "After more than 25 years in Quota, I am almost ashamed to admit that I didn't know that," said Marj. "I am wondering if other Quota members do not know this either."

Why butterflies? Explained Past Governor Dawn Bickford of the Narooma Quota club, "Butterflies can't hear."
