Winning Project: Silent Auction Luncheon and New Member Recruitment

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Quota International of Beckley, Inc., hosted a Silent Auction Luncheon and New Member Recruitment on Tuesday, March 25, from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Raleigh County Armory Civic Center in Beckley, West Virginia. Proceeds from the auction were used to purchase eight cases of floor tile, two gallons of ceiling paint, two gallons of wall enamel, and four gallons of glue for the floor tile for the Pine Haven Homeless Shelter in Beckley, West Virginia.

Quota members brought baskets of items, such as jewelry, garden supplies, and Christmas decorations to be auctioned via silent bidding during an afternoon luncheon hosted by the club. The lunch was provided at no charge to guests. Invitations were mailed to prospects for possible membership recruitment as well as the fund-raiser participation. RELATED RECRUITMENT ACTIVITIES
Eighty-four guests were invited to the Silent Auction for possible recruitment for new membership. Each current member submitted names of prospects. Radio spots, newspaper articles, and community service television spots advertised for potential recruits and luncheon participants, as well.

Display boards set up at the Silent Auction included information about QI of Beckley's service projects. Copies of Quota International's service brochure were placed on the tables at the luncheon along with membership applications. The room was decorated with Quota colors. All members were recognized for their years of service. Three First District past governors gave presentations and members were recognized for years of perfect attendance.

Past district governors—Dolly Johnson (left) was recognized for 38 years of service and Louise Grinstead for 39 years of service in the Beckley club. Both were guest speakers at the Silent Auction held by QI of Beckley.

MEDIA/COMMUNITY EDUCATION
Radio spots were aired and a newspaper article was written announcing the Silent Auction. Details on Quota International's mission and opportunity for membership application at the Silent Auction were also provided. Current members brought invitations to their garden clubs and other social organizations to recruit prospects.

Membership requirements were announced during the luncheon. Current members gave testimonials regarding their reasons for joining and staying in the club. A newspaper article with six photos of the luncheon were sent to the local newspaper for publication explaining Quota International's We Share Foundation and its international service campaign.

BENEFITS TO CLUB, COMMUNITY
Our club gained two new members and reinstated one member. Our current members were recognized for their years of service and perfect attendance. The local Pine Haven Homeless Shelter received over $700 of supplies to replace its kitchen tile and provide other renovations, such as new paint and wall enamel.
