Quota International of New Delhi, India
Quota Home for Abandoned and Destitute Women

From dispensing medicine to providing vocational training, 2006 found New Delhi Quotarians meeting their community's most dire needs through a range of programs focusing on education and health care at their Quota Home. Every day, 160 children attended the Home's school, which included trained teaching staff, uniforms, shoes, school supplies, and a mid-day meal and snack. Adult education is also important; the Quota Home's Vocational Centre provided adult literacy classes and also offered 200 girls computer training and classes in sewing, knitting, and embroidery to develop the skills they need to support themselves. Sales from their crafts generated a stipend as well as the funds to sustain the program.

In addition to developing strong minds, the Home also ensured healthy bodies by providing all program participants with regular dental and health checkups. A registered medical practitioner coordinated a free dispensary for the surrounding community, and the club provided diagnostic care with free cancer detection and polio camps.

“The name Quota Home is now synonymous with the care for underprivileged children and women. The Home has taken under its wing many a child who would otherwise have been bereft of education as well as nutrition and medical care.”
