Quota International of Davao City, The Philippines
    Mindanao Hearing Screening Program

Quota International of Davao City's Club-to-Club project had a milestone year in 2006. With commitment and vision, members worked with multiple departments at the Brokenshire Hospital, provided training for technicians, purchased an otoacoustic emission machine, and developed the infrastructure to establish and sustain a hearing screening program. In addition to providing hearing screening to 276 newborns, the screening program is a significant step toward making neonatal hearing screening a standard of care throughout the community, as the model can be replicated by other hospitals and health care providers.

Putting such a program in place is a tremendous accomplishment in itself, but Davao City Quotarians didn't stop there. In 2006, they offered more free hearing screening clinics than ever before. Through visits to local barangays and schools, they provided free hearing screenings to 350 children, and nearly 800 women received hearing screenings at a Buntis Day event co-sponsored by Davao City Quotarians and the Philippine Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology to promote health and wellness among pregnant women.
