Central Oregon Quotarians know how to celebrate Quota Cares Month in a big way…and then some. They began with a Membership Drive on February 17, 2009, hosted three service projects in March, and followed up with two more projects in April.

On March 14, 2009, the club helped sponsor a Fun Run in support of Healthy Beginnings, an organization that provides health screenings for children, and four Quotarians participated in the run. The club also hosted story times for children at libraries in Bend and La Pine on March 17 and March 21. The children were treated to a wide array of wonderful stories and songs presented by the librarians at each facility. Interpreters who could provide signing for the deaf children who attended were also on hand. More than 50 people, including children and their parents, attended the events.

The club started the month of April with a Soap Party where four potential members joined club members in packaging donated toiletries for presentation to local homeless shelters. Toiletries were also presented to Nancy's House, a shelter for families. Members and potential members alike were happy to participate in a project that helped the less fortunate in their community.

A few days later on April 4th, another prospective member joined club members in a painting project at Nancy's House. Fifteen gallons of paint donated by a local paint supply store were used to freshen up the walls of a large living room, dining room, and two hallways, including 11 doors. It was a real show of teamwork, even though only two members were willing to climb the 12-foot ladder to paint a tall accent wall.

The participation of potential members in these activities, as well as the surrounding newspaper coverage, resulted in one new member for the Central Oregon Quota club and three more people who have promised to join. It was an exceptional Quota Cares Month, more than worthy of being recapped at a potluck party on April 6. Special awards were presented to members who participated in the service projects and everyone enjoyed the funny stories and pictures of the month's activities.
