Winner Cupertino Quotarians made memories for children in need during Quota Cares Month last year. The most basic needs of Cupertino's low-income children are met by West Valley Community Services, a local community organization that provides clothing, toiletries, and other essentials. Once basic needs are met and a budget stretched, there's little money left over for the toys, snacks, games, and other items to bring joy to children's lives. Recognizing that it's the little things that make a difference, Quota International of Cupertino volunteered to provide a favorite childhood traditionEaster Baskets. It was a true community effort, as the club contacted the local Lions
Club to encourage their participation and invited potential Quotarians
identified by the club to take part as well. All of Cupertino knew about
the project, thanks to updates in the local newspaper and on the town's
Web site. By the end of March, the club, in conjunction with the local
high school district's adult education program, assembled baskets of candy,
healthy snacks, toys, games, and stuffed animals purchased with money
raised from their fall poinsettia sale. They contacted the local Lions
Club for help and spread the word among potential members as identified
by current members. The baskets not only brought joy to the lives of children
in need, but also invigorated the club and introduced it to countless
community membersincluding the three new members the project brought
on board. To read or print the club's winning application, click here*. Back to Quota Cares Month Winners Main Page>>> *To view or print out these documents, you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader. Click here to go to Adobe's Web site and download a free copy of Acrobat Reader. |
