Quota Cares Month—Top Winner

Good healthcare saves lives and provides quality of life, and the Quota club of New Delhi knows this well. That is why they dedicated this Quota Cares Month to providing much-needed dental treatments and cancer screenings through their Quota Home for Abandoned and Destitute Women.

The work began on March 19 when Quotarians brought a mobile dental van to the Quota Home. There, a dentist and oral hygienist gave every child in the Home a check-up and cleaning as well as providing fillings and other necessary dental repairs for those who needed them. On March 31, Quotarians partnered with the Indian Cancer Society to bring a Cancer Detection Camp to the Quota Home. A team of doctors arrived in a van and saw 68 patients in six hours. Every patient received a chest x-ray, blood tests, hearing tests, and pap smears were also performed throughout the day.

Club members helped register and organize patients at both these events, but they were also responsible for the longer term planning that brought these much-needed services to some of the poorer areas around New Delhi. Fliers were distributed to every household in the area, and television announcements were made in the hopes of reaching potential patients who could not read the fliers. The medical and support staff at the Quota Home also visited the families of the Quota Home children to encourage them to come to the screenings.

Although they did not set out to do so, the Quota club of New Delhi recruited four new members during Quota Cares Month. The real reward, however, lies in helping the Quota Home children, their families, and others in need who received much-needed healthcare.
