Quota
International of Parkes

John Milton, in his famous lament "On His Blindness" concluded
with the words: "They also serve who only stand and wait." It's
obvious that he hadn't met Sue Ellen Lovett. This remarkable young woman,
who lost all but two percent of her eyesight to a hereditary disease,
has never waited for anything in her life. From the moment she got her
first guide dog, and thereby her independence, this remarkable woman has
raised more than two million dollars for Guide Dogs as well as various
other charities.
Ms.
Lovett was the perfect guest speaker at the Parkes International Women's
Day luncheon. Quota guests were enthralled by Sue Ellen's amazing story
of courage, determination, and achievement. The Quota club's committee
for Disadvantaged Women and Children planned the event, while other Quotarians
prepared and served the food, made placemats, and decorated the tables
as well as the room.

This
successful event was great for club morale. Their theme for the year,
"Reach Out Together," really came into play as approximately
half of the club members helped put on the luncheon, while all the other
members were present at it. The club received quite a bit of publicity,
and for the first time the function was completely booked. A number of
guests expressed interest in Quota, and it is quite possible that the
club will have several new members in the near future. Inspired by their
success, the Quotarians will continue to publicize the good works of their
club. Like Sue Ellen, these Quotarians will not stand and wait.
