If you're in line waiting for tests at Gribbles Pathology in Broken Hill, Australia, now you can sit down and relax. Thanks to the Quota Club, a bench has been placed outside the lab on the main street and shopping area. While this may seem like just a nicety, there is actually a good reason for placing the bench there. Many senior citizens line up early in the day for medical tests. Often with blood tests there is a mandatory fasting after midnight. Some people feel a bit shaky having to wait for breakfast, and having a place to sit and rest makes the wait a bit easier.

When the city council of Broken Hill, which had many requests for a bench in that location, approached Quota, the council members were delighted to learn that the club had already planned this project. When good minds think alike, everyone rests easier.

The club also funded a rose garden in a community park and plaques in the garden and on the bench bear the Quota name. This will keep the name Quota in the public eye long after the publicity from the event (including a radio interview and a newspaper article) has been forgotten. Each member of the club was involved in fund-raising for this project. Although a small project by some standards, it was very worthwhile in that it addressed a community need. A bench may seem like a simple thing, and it is. But to those waiting in line, it is a blessing. It is a place to sit down and relax!
