Quota
Cares MonthTop Winner
When the Quota Club of West Memphis made a donation of toys, it was more than just entertainment value that they had in mind. This March the club chose the Memphis Oral School as the beneficiary of their fund-raising efforts. The toys will be used to help teach deaf children how to talk. Through the use of educational toys the children will learn through play to speak without using sign language or lip reading.
With advances in technology and audio screenings, children with hearing loss are identified far earlier than in days gone by. As a result, the student population at the Memphis Oral School keeps getting younger and younger. The school is thrilled, because the earlier the children enroll, the sooner they can learn to listen and to talk. And the best way to teach young children is through play.
The toy project was a great way to educate new club members about the work that Quota does with the deaf. It was fun selecting and purchasing the needed items. But the real fun came when club members visited and actually had a chance to sit down with the children and play, too!
