    Quota Cares Month—Top Winner
    Quota International of Beenleigh

The use of the word "Penny" in the title of the fund-raiser "A Penny for Your Thoughts" doesn't describe the amount of money that the Quotarians of Beenleigh raised at their Gala dinner, but rather a very special member of the community, Penny Harland. This remarkable woman, after completing high school through a correspondence program, went on to earn three university degrees. Pretty impressive by any standards! But what makes Penny even more remarkable is that she is both blind and deaf.

Quota has had an ongoing relationship with Penny, helping her throughout the years. The Quota club purchased computer equipment for her and nominated her for Deaf Woman of the Year awards. With the funds raised from this year's benefit, the club will provide financial assistance to help cover the cost of maintaining her cochlear implant.

The event was a resounding success not only as a fund-raiser but also in terms of fellowship. Club members used their creative talents to auction off hand-made items such as a crocheted rug and a blanket. The Quotarians also used their skills in accumulating other raffle items such as catamaran cruises, fitness vouchers, and collectable items from a car racing team.

The Quota members of Beenleigh timed the event to follow their annual recruitment cocktail party. With all of the publicity the affair generated, many people heard about Quota. As a result the club has two new members with a possibility of a third. The achievements of the club mirror Penny's inspirational words, "The person who wins is the one who thinks he can."
