Quota
Cares MonthTop Winner
The death of a former club president gave one of the Morgantown Quota club's most important causes even more significance. For several months, the club had been raising money to provide schools and community centers with automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to help prevent sudden cardiac death in children. There is a great need for such equipment, as the club is in rural West Virginia, where EMS response time is at least 10 minutes. The presence of AEDs makes a 69 percent difference in survival rate, but at $2,400 apiece, they are far from affordable.
Television, newspapers, and WVUH, the local radio station, featured the March 29 presentation ceremony. Local dignitaries and community leaders praised the Quota club for their dedication and commitment, and the publicity generated many inquiries about membership in the 79-year-old clubwhich has a lot of lifeand has now given the gift of life to the entire community.
